Guwahati, Feb 3: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of being responsible for the poor condition of the Yamuna River in the capital, attributing its pollution to Kejriwal’s “sins.” Addressing a public meeting in support of the BJP candidate in Babarpur, Sarma rejected Kejriwal’s claims of water poisoning, questioning how a Hindu could poison water and targeting Kejriwal’s failure to fulfill his promises.
Sarma criticized Kejriwal for alleging that the Haryana government had mixed poison in the Yamuna water, asking whether the BJP would risk poisoning water consumed by its own leaders in Delhi. He also called out Kejriwal’s unfulfilled pledge to clean the Yamuna before contesting elections, accusing him of misleading the public.
The Assam CM also took a swipe at Kejriwal’s election promises, claiming the AAP leader was only offering monthly salaries to priests now because of the upcoming elections, while he had consistently supported maulanas. Sarma further attacked Kejriwal’s past actions, including his time in jail and his broken promises from the Anna Hazare movement.
With Delhi’s elections scheduled for February 5, Sarma’s remarks are expected to escalate the political battle as the vote count approaches on February 8.
