Wildfire rages in Arunachal’s Tawang

A wildfire, threatening to singe several villages, is raging in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

District officials said the fire broke out in the Twang Chu (river) belt below the Sakgyur village in the Lungla subdivision at around 10 a.m. on Friday.

“The fire spread quickly. It was contained to some extent through the joint efforts of the local administration, police, Army and Sashastra Seema Bal personnel, and the villagers,” a district officer said.

“The fire is spreading to a wooded area that is not easily accessible. We are monitoring the situation and trying to bring the fire under control,” the officer added.

The Lungla area is at an average of 6,600 feet above the mean sea level.
