Govinda’s family, friends, fans and well-wishers were left concerned in October last year when the actor accidentally shot himself in his leg. Months after, his wife, Sunita Ahuja, has now revealed how she got to know about the tragedy and what was her first reaction.
Recently, Sunita was speaking with Hindustan Times when she recalled getting a call from Govinda’s driver after the accidental shooting. “I was in Mumbai and at early morning, my driver calls me saying, ‘Sahab ko goli lag gayi’. I said ‘lagi ya kisini maar di?’ That’s when he said, ‘revolver rakh rahe the, gir gaya’. Then Govinda spoke to me saying goli lag gaya. I told him, ‘Tumne kahi khud toh nahi maar diya’. He said, ‘Abhi bhi Mazak soojha raha hai’ That’s when I told him not to panic and calm down,” she said.
“I feared he might get a heart attack. I called Tina, who was at home, and told her not to panic and take him to the hospital. I never panic in any situation,” Sunita added.
For the unversed, Govinda misfired his revolver and hurt his foot on October 1, 2024, when he was leaving for Kolkata. The actor was then hospitalised where he underwent surgery. Following his discharge from the hospital, Govinda held a press conference and recounted the details of the accidental shooting incident.
“I was preparing to leave for the show… for Kolkata. It was around 4:45-5:00 am. Woh giri aur chal padi (the revolver fell and misfired). I felt a jhatka (I was shocked) and then saw… there was a fountain (of blood),” he said.
“When we are getting ready in the morning, it feels like whatever you’re doing in haste is right… Main thoda sa mast raha karta hoon (I’m a bit careless/carefree by nature), so I didn’t think anything was wrong. I’m sahaj (easy-going), I didn’t expect something like this to happen. But one should be careful. I hope no one else has to experience this; they can learn from what happened to me,” the actor added.
