“We have to be wary of vested interests who are saying that they are preparing another Constitution for this country as they are not happy with the present one,” Minister H.K. Patil said in Gadag recently.
He was speaking at a ceremony to launch a book, Samvidhana vs Sanatanvada, by activist Shiva Sundar at the Lions Bhavan there.
“Some people are talking about the coming of another Constitution which they say will be a greater Constitution than the present one. It is necessary to talk about it seriously now. I believe that those who speak of another Constitution for this country are no less than traitors,” Mr. Patil said.
“We should be careful about those who have the idea of dividing society and are sowing poisonous seeds by holding such ideological texts,” he said.
“I think we have two Indias. One is Mahatma Gandhi’s India where all live like brothers and sisters and the other is Nathuram Godse’s India where people are divided and discriminated against on the basis of caste and other factors. We should decide which India to embrace,” he said.
Writer and senior journalist Dinesh Aminmattu said that it is wrong to portray B.R. Ambedkar as an opponent of Hinduism. “He was not an opponent of Hinduism. If we study his life properly, we will understand that he worked hard to reform Hinduism at least until the Hindu Code Bill was drafted,” he said.
“It is a sad state of affairs that even after 75 years of the Constitution coming into force, we are in a situation where we have to fight to save the Constitution. This speaks loudly about the prevailing situation,” he said.
“We need to be clear about our ideology and be cautious about other ideological streams that tend to divide people,” he said.
He urged young people to be cautious about vested interests who are trying to paint a picture of society other than the truth.
“We should realise that Dr. Ambedkar burnt the Manusmruti in 1927 and worked towards framing the Constitution in 1949. I believe that those who accept the ideologies of the Buddha, Basavanna and Dr. Ambedkar should oppose the RSS and its ideology. They may have deceived themselves, but let us not do that,” he said.
“The RSS was inspired by Hitler and Mussolini. They were waiting for a leader with dictatorial qualities and after nearly a century, they found Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
As many as five pourakarmikas released the book.
Sri Virateshananda Swamiji, writer Allama Prabhu Bettadura, Muthu Bileyali, Ramachandra Hansanura, Basavaraj Sulibhavi and others were present.
