Vineet Kumar Singh opens up about losing the lead role in Lukka Chuppi due to a misunderstanding, a part that later went to Kartik Aaryan.
Vineet Kumar Singh, known for his powerful performances, recently found long-awaited recognition with Laxman Utekar’s historical drama Chhaava, where he portrayed Kavi Kalash, a poet and confidant of Sambhaji Maharaj. Reflecting on his journey, Vineet revealed how a simple misunderstanding once cost him a major breakthrough—the lead role in Utekar’s 2019 hit Lukka Chuppi, eventually played by Kartik Aaryan.
In a candid conversation with Digital Commentary, Vineet recalled how the opportunity slipped through his fingers. “There was a Laxman Utekar film, written by a friend of mine. When he gave me the script, it didn’t seem like he was pitching it to me. I assumed he wanted feedback, so I didn’t respond immediately.”
By the time Vineet realized it was an actual offer, the film had already moved on. “When I spoke to Laxman Utekar later, I was shocked to learn they had wanted me for the lead role. It was my bad luck—I mistook the pitch for a casual script exchange, something I often do with writer friends,” he admitted. The film, originally titled Mathura Lives, was renamed Lukka Chuppi and went on to become a commercial success with Kartik Aaryan in the lead.
Vineet reflected on how familiarity can sometimes lead to awkwardness and missed opportunities. “When you’re close to someone, things can get tricky. Even my friend, Rohan Shankar, who wrote the film, couldn’t explicitly say they were offering me the role. And just like that, it slipped away.”
The actor also opened up about the struggles he faced despite the critical acclaim he received for Mukkabaaz. “After Mukkabaaz, I genuinely believed my career would change. But nothing major happened, and I had to take up random roles just to pay rent,” he shared.
However, Chhaava seems to have finally turned the tide for Vineet. Following the film’s success and the praise for his performance, he took to social media to express his gratitude. In a heartfelt post, he wrote, “After Chhaava, I’m hopeful that the audience who appreciated my previous work won’t surprise me with the question, ‘Sir, if you don’t mind… AAPKA NAAM KYA HAI?’”
