Jaideep Ahlawat recalled Vijay Varma’s playful reaction when the Paatal Lok 2 actor won an award in the category they were both nominated for.

Actors Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat share a great camaraderie, and have been friends for many years. They were both students at the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, and their 2005 batch also included actors Rajkummar Rao, and Sunny Hinduja, among others. In a recent interview, Jaideep Ahlawat talked about his friendship with Vijay, and revealed that they have a supportive and playful bond. He also recalled what happened when he won an award for ‘Maharaj’ in the category that they were both nominated for.
In an interview with Puja Talwar, Jaideep Ahlawat shared that the dynamic between him and Vijay Varma in healthy and funny. While they cheer each other on, and there’s also a bit of friendly rivalry between them. Jaideep recalled an instance wherein he won an award for ‘Maharaj’, and said that while Vijay was happy for him, he jokingly cussed him the next day for taking his award. “Vijay and I got nominated in the same category recently, and I won it for Maharaj. He was happy that day, but agle din mujhe gaaliyaan de raha hai ki ye mera award kha gaya (but the next day, he cussed me out for taking his award),” he said.
Jaideep further added that his dynamic with Vijay Varma is ‘healthy and funny’, and that it keeps things light-hearted. “That’s so healthy and funny; it aligns your system,” he said. Not only were the two actors batch mates during their time in FTII, they have also worked together in movies such as Chittagong (2012), Baaghi 3 (2020), and Jaane Jaan (2023).
Jaideep Ahlawat is currently basking in the success of his recently released series Paatal Lok Season 2, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on January 17, 2025. The actor repises his role as Inspector Hathiram Chaudhary in the sequel of the 2020 series produced by Sudip Sharma and directed by Avinash Arun Dhaware. It also stars Ishwak Singh, Gul Panag, Tillotama Shome, Jahnu Barua, Nagesh Kukunoor, among others. Jaideep Ahlawat was previously seen in the 2024 film ‘Maharaj’ co-starring Junaid Khan, Shalini Pandey and Sharvari.
