His latest historical epic, Chhaava, is roaring at the box office and has become the biggest Hindi opener of 2025 after its release on February 14. It also marks his biggest opening as a leading man. 4. On the first day, Chhaava collected Rs 31 crore at the domestic box office. The actor, who plays the role of Sambhaji Maharaj in the film, couldn’t contain his excitement as he shared his gratitude on social media for the overwhelming love pouring in. The film has been directed by Laxman Utekar.

Vicky Kaushal took to his official Instagram account to share some pictures from Chhaava’s promotional events. Along with it, he wrote, “Aapke pyaar ne #Chhaava ko sachmuch Zinda kar diya!!! Before Chhaava stormed the box office, Sky Force, featuring Akshay Kumar and newcomer Veer Pahariya, held the record for the biggest Hindi opening of 2025 with a collection of rs 15.3 crore. However, the film found itself in the middle of a controversy when trade analyst Taran Adarsh raised concerns about block bookings—a tactic where producers allegedly buy bulk tickets to inflate box office figures. Despite the speculation, Sky Force managed an impressive run, ultimately crossing the Rs 111 crore mark.

Before Chhaava, Vicky Kaushal’s biggest opening came with Bad Newz, which earned around Rs 8 crore on day one. However, what makes Chhaava’s debut even more remarkable is that its opening-day collection is nearly equal to the combined total of Kaushal’s last six theatrical releases – Sam Bahadur (Rs 5 crore), The Great Indian Family (Rs 1 crore), Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (Rs 5 crore), Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship (Rs 5 crore), and even his breakthrough Uri: The Surgical Strike (Rs 8 crore).

Chhaava is a biographical historical action film based on the life of Maratha Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. It is an adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant. Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna.
