Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Sunday (January 26, 2025) expressed doubts over the investigation by the Tamil Nadu Police into the Vengaivayal incident and demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the case. “The charge sheet was filed after two years since the incident, only to avoid any transfer of the case to the Central investigating agency,” he charged.
Mr. Panneerselvam pointed out that the charge sheet was filed only four days before the case in connection with the incident was about to be heard in the Madras High Court. He also underlined that a retired High Court judge appointed in this regard, had not submitted any report over the past two years.
“If it takes two years to frame charges against the accused, it has become clear that the CB-CID probe was not independent but being exerted pressure by the ruling government and that there have been attempts to help the real accused in the case escape,” Mr. Panneerselvam charged.
In another statement, Mr. Panneerselvam criticised Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s recent statement requesting not to replace Governor R.N. Ravi, contending that his presence in the State helped his DMK party grow.
“The CM has realised that he could not retain the power by any achievements of his government,” Mr. Panneerselvam charged and further claimed that the DMK government had failed in all departments and that the law-and-order situation was deteriorating in the State.
