Officials from the Department of AYUSH raided and sealed a clinic of a so-called doctor in Jalpally on Saturday.
The action was taken following complaints that ‘doctor’ Attaullah Khan was allegedly collecting large sums of money from patients and supplying drugs without proper labelling, manufacturing or expiry dates, and details of ingredients.
Prithviraj, an inspector from AYUSH, stated that the accused falsely claimed to be a doctor. “Upon examination, we found that he does not possess any degree. He claimed to have learned Ayurvedic and Unani medicine from his forefathers, which is against the rules. Action has been initiated against him,” he said.
The raid follows a prior inspection of the clinic in Hyderabad a week ago, during which authorities issued a notice to Khan. “He did not respond to the notice, prompting us to seal the clinic to prevent any potential harm to patients. It is also unlawful to guarantee that any medicine will cure a specific disease,” Dr. Prithviraj added.
Authorities have urged the public to report fraudulent practitioners of Unani, Homeopathy, and Ayurveda to the AYUSH office in Secunderabad.
The crackdown on unlicensed medical practices comes in the wake of a raid by the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) on February 14. During the raid, officials discovered an ayurvedic medicine, ‘Amla Churnam,’ being sold at a medical store in Adilabad with misleading claims that it could treat ‘diseases of the optical system’.
