The national conference of the All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU), a central trade union supported by the CPI (ML-Liberation) has resolved to hold joint protests with other trade unions if the Centre implements the four Labour Codes. A resolution adopted at the meeting said the Narendra Modi government has renewed its onslaught on workers’ rights by attempting to implement the “anti-worker four Labour Codes through the backdoor”.
“The pro-corporate labour codes are being bulldozed through, despite the resistance of the entire working class of the country. It also comes at a time when Infosys’ Narayana Murthy and L&T’s Subrahmanyan are lobbying for 70 to 90 hour work weeks, without any condemnation from the government,” the resolution said.
The AICCTU said it is resolved to fight against the implementation of the four Labour Codes, until it is withdrawn. “AICCTU will join hands with other Trade Unions to halt the wheels of the country through an all India strike if the Labour Codes are implemented,” it said. The conference elected Rajiv Dimri as national general secretary and V. Shankar as national president of the AICCTU.
