The Balaramapuram police have concluded that the uncle of the two-year-old girl who was murdered under mysterious circumstances two weeks ago is the sole accused in the case. The investigators have found no evidence linking the child’s mother to the crime.

The accused, who had been in police custody until Wednesday, reportedly confessed to having an incestuous relationship with his sister, the mother of the deceased.

According to the police, a few hours before the murder on January 30, the accused messaged his sister on WhatsApp, asking her to come to his room. However, she left shortly after hearing her child cry, which allegedly angered the accused. He is said to have committed the crime when the mother went to the toilet.

The accused allegedly threw the child into a well in Kottukalkonam. Initially reported missing, the body was later found in the well. While the accused was suspected to be suffering from mental illness, experts at the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital ruled this out following an examination.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against a police official, whom the mother of the deceased child accused of having defrauded her of nearly ₹35 lakh. However, the police have yet to ascertain the allegation. The complainant had earlier accused an astrologer of the crime.
