DIBRUGARH, Dec 10: Dibrugarh police apprehended two alleged drug peddlers near Banipur Railway Station, seizing 10.87 grams of suspected heroin from their possession.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Bishal Chetry alias Bubu and Sohail Khan.
Acting on specific information, a police team from Dibrugarh Police Station conducted an operation near the railway station, leading to the apprehension of the two suspects along with the drug on Monday.
Both have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
After interrogation, the drug peddlers were sent to jail. The estimated street value of the heroin is approximately Rs 8,19,000.
“Drug peddling has become a source of income for unemployed youths in Dibrugarh. The drug addicts are mostly involved in drug peddling to earn quick money. In recent times, many youths associated with drug peddling were arrested,” said a police source.
