Thought process of young bureaucrats needs to change: CM Revanth

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stressed the need for a change in the thought processes of the bureaucrats, particularly the young generation, recalling how the officials in the past used to brief the political heads in depth about the pros and cons of the issues they raised.

However, that attitude is not seen at present and a section of officials are not even meeting the people, he said speaking after releasing the book ‘Life of A Karma Yogi’ authored by retired bureaucrat M. Gopalakrishna here on Sunday (February 16).

“Bureaucrats used to be among the people all the time in the past. But some district collectors are preferring to stay in the comforts of air-conditioned rooms. I don’t understand why. This has to change for efficiently delivering services to the people,” the Chief Minister said.

Appreciating Mr. Gopalakrishna for his efforts to compile his six-decades experience in the form of a book, Mr. Revanth Reddy hoped that the work would be a guiding force for the bureaucrats in the coming days.

He recalled the contributions of three eminent personalities — S.R. Sankaran, T.N. Seshan and Manmohan Singh — in this context. While Mr. Sankaran was known for his commitment to work, Mr. Seshan ensured that the election process in the country was made transparent. Mr. Manmohan Singh on his part put the country on the track of development ushering in far-reaching reforms. “Civil servants should learn a lot from their experiences,” he said.

The Chief Minister said due recognition would be given to officials working with commitment and it was the responsibility of the officials to work out ways to help the poorer sections. “People will remember those officials who worked for their welfare for long time and officials should accordingly focus their efforts in this direction,” he said.
