Many celebrities in the film industry have enjoyed a rapid rise to success, gaining fame, wealth, and luxury. However, some later fell prey to addiction, which ultimately destroyed both their personal lives and careers.

South Indian actress Urvashi experienced a similar downfall. Apart from Malayalam, Urvashi achieved stardom by making a mark as an actress in Kannada, Telugu and Tamil films. After working alongside prominent stars in Tollywood, her career was derailed by alcohol addiction.

Urvashi, born Kavitha Renjini, in Kollam district, Kerala, began her film career as a child artist. She quickly rose to stardom, becoming a lead heroine in a short period.

Urvashi was initially not cast as a lead actress in Telugu cinema, instead taking on supporting roles in a few films. She was known as a character artist in Telugu films. She made her Telugu debut with the film Rustum opposite Chiranjeevi in 1984. Later, she acted in the film Bhale Thammudu opposite Balakrishna in 1985.

She also appeared in the Hindi film New Delhi (1987) and earned the National Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2006, showcasing her talent.

Throughout her career, Urvashi appeared in around 700 films, captivating audiences with her performances both as a lead actress and in character roles. She worked with legendary actors like Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vishnuvardhan, Ambarish, Ravichandran, Ramesh Arvind, Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Dr Rajkumar.

Despite achieving stardom early in her career, Urvashi faced personal challenges during her peak. She struggled with alcohol addiction, which ultimately led to the downfall of her film career.

In 2000, Urvashi married actor Manoj K Jayan, but their marriage ended in divorce after facing numerous difficulties. As a result, she became a single mother to her daughter.

In 2016, at the age of 44, Urvashi remarried Chennai-based businessman Shivaprasad. Together, they have a son, Ihan Prajapati. Now living away from the film industry, Urvashi enjoys a peaceful and happy life with her family.
