Nobel Prize-winning musician Bob Dylan has recently been quite active on social media, going on an archival video posting spree. In the most recent gesture, Dylan led his 1.1 million Instagram followers to a younger Machine Gun Kelly from his early days as a freestyle rapper. On Wednesday, February 26, the legendary singer-songwriter shared a 2016 video of MGK, showing him performing at an Orlando Record store, leaving the Bad Things singer stunned. While Dylan refrained from sharing any specific caption to explain his motive behind giving a heads-up to Machine Gun Kelly, the latter seemed more than happy with the gesture.
He even took to the comment section and wrote, “You having a phone is so rad,” while Kelly’s good friend and singer/producer Mod Sun added, “This is my favourite thing that’s ever happened on the internet.”
Fans were equally surprised by the post, with many taking to the comment section and expressing their amazement. A comment read, “We got Bob Dylan posting MGK before GTA 6,” while another added, “I love when Dylan fans get riled because he throws a curveball.”
A user commented, “Bob Dylan posting MGK acoustic is fire AF!!!!!”
MGK, in a separate video on his Instagram stories, described it as a “cool moment.” Mentioning that he was having a whole discussion about it in his house, the singer continued, “I’m in my conversation pit in my house having a whole discussion about, ‘Am I doing the right thing? Is this the right direction for this album? I’m questioning it. And in the same breath that I’m questioning it, someone goes, ‘Bob Dylan just posted a video of you.’ And I’m like, ‘There must be another Bob Dylan. Whatever.’ We got to his Instagram; he did post a video. I’m like…Just the originator of doing everything opposite of what people wanted him to do, randomly posting a video of me back in the day rapping in a vinyl shop. I’m just like, ‘What the fuck?’ Just trust the signs, man. That was so cool. I’m so grateful. So random.”
He even reshared the post on his Instagram stories and wrote, “This was not on my 2025 bingo card.”
It is worth mentioning Bob Dylan’s post on MGK comes alongside many of his other posts about various artists and films. Dylan is currently set to commence his 2025 Never Ending Tour, which is slated to begin on March 25 at the Tulsa Theatre in Oklahoma.
