Several temple managements and social organisations expressed their support for Chilkur Balaji temple priest C.S. Rangarajan, who was manhandled by a gang recently. They termed the attack “a blot on Hindu Dharma” and demanded protection for priests.
Members of the Andhra Pradesh Purohit Brahmana Samakhya took out a procession and staged a demonstration at Annamayya Circle in Kadapa on Wednesday (February 12), terming the incident unfortunate and demanding punishment for the culprits.
“Priests pray for universal well-being by chanting ‘Sarve Janaah Sukhino Bhavanthu’, but it is highly unfortunate that they are coming under attack for no fault of their own,” said district general secretary of the organisation Varanasi Sridhar Sharma.
Referring to the video of the attack, the body of priests appealed to the judiciary to take up a case suo motu. “The hooligans who attacked the priests had no qualms in even recording the same in the form of a video and circulating it on social media. The High Court has to take the video as an evidence and suo motu take up a case to restore public confidence in the judiciary,” he said.
