Telangana tunnel collapse LIVE: Rescue operations underway to save eight persons trapped inside SLBC tunnel

Rescuers have inched closer to the eight persons trapped inside the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project tunnel following its roof collapse 24 hours ago, with operations underway to extricate them, officials said on Sunday (February 23, 2025).

However, there is no breakthrough even in contacting or communicating with the trapped persons till Sunday morning.

A joint rescue team formed with about 300 members comprising personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army, National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), Singareni Collieries and the SDRF reached 11 km inside the tunnel with the help of the train that ferries the workforce and other material and brings out excavated material. “The (rescue) teams have reached almost up to the last point (till the machine). We are assessing the situation,” a senior police official said on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called up Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to inquire about the incident and assured all possible assistance from the Centre for the ongoing rescue operation.
