Senior leaders from Backward Classes (BCs), including Rajya Sabha member and National BC Association president R. Krishnaiah, and former chairman of the Telangana BC Commission Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao, have demanded that the State government implement 42% reservations for BCs in the impending local body elections. They also warned the government of massive agitations if their demand is not fulfilled.

Addressing the ‘BC Rajakiya Yudhabheri’ public meeting held at the Arts and Science College grounds here on Sunday, Mr. Krishnaiah demanded that the government ensure reservations for BCs by taking steps to overcome legal issues or the Supreme Court ceiling on 50% reservations.

Mr. Krishnaiah called upon people from backward classes to unite for their financial sustenance and political empowerment through agitations. He stressed the need to change the way their movements exert pressure on the State and Central governments to get their demands fulfilled. He accused upper-class people of depriving the Backward Classes of political power despite India attained independence 76 years ago.

Former BC Commission chairman Krishna Mohan Rao charged the State government with tampering with the data on the BC caste census and warned against denying reservations to BCs in the local body elections. They issued a warning about potential rebellion if the Backward Classes do not receive their fair share in jobs and legislative bodies.

Several other speakers appealed to BC voters to ensure victory for BC candidates in Teacher and Graduate MLC elections. MLC Chintapandu Naveen alias Teenmar Mallanna, former Minister Baswaraju Saraiah and others spoke at the meeting.
