In a major political development, the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) secured control over the Hindupur municipality in Sri Sathya Sai district, with Ramesh Kumar elected as the Chairman. The election, held on Monday, witnessed the participation of all 38 corporators.

Election Officer and Revenue Divisional Officer Anand Kumar officially announced Ramesh Kumar’s victory, stating that he secured the support of 21 councillors, along with the local MP and MLA. Notably, 13 councillors from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) switched their allegiance to TDP, contributing to the party’s majority.

The election was conducted smoothly, with all councillors exercising their votes. Ramesh Kumar, who represents the sixth ward, will now take charge as the Chairman of the municipality. Following the announcement, TDP leaders, councillors, and party activists celebrated the victory with fireworks and public gatherings.

Hindupur MLA and actor Nandamuri Balakrishna and MP B.K. Parthasarathi oversaw the gathering of the councillors.

D.N. Indraja, who was previously the chairperson of the municipality, tendered her resignation following the debacle of the YSRCP in the recent assembly elections, and rout in the combined Anantapur district.
