Taapsee Pannu has always responded to criticism with grace. Years after Rangoli Chandel called her Kangana Ranaut’s ‘sasti copy,’ she maintained her stance. In a recent interview, the actress shared her perspective on the old controversy once again. She said, “Maybe I am ‘sasti’ because I don’t get paid as much as Kangana Ranaut. If being called a copy of such a talented actress is the case, I am okay with it.”

She added that a person’s words and conversations reflect their upbringing and personality. “I can never say such things about any woman who has carved her own journey,” she told ABP News.

In 2019, Taapsee praised the trailer of Kangana Ranaut’s Judgementall Hai Kya in a post on X (formerly Twitter) but did not mention Kangana’s name. This prompted Rangoli Chandel to respond, “Kuch log Kangana ko copy kar ke he apni dukaan chalate hain, magar pls note, they never acknowledge her, not even a mention of her name in praising the trailer. Last I heard, Taapsee ji said Kangana needs a double filter, and Taapsee ji, you need to stop being a sasti copy.” Rangoli reportedly deleted her X post later.

In the same interview, Taapsee also spoke about issues within the industry. Discussing biases in Bollywood, she pointed out that women-centric films often receive lower budgets and limited theatrical releases. The Thappad actress said both men and women in the industry must break these biases, as many filmmakers and actors aim to create social change.

She also commented on the growing importance of social media presence in casting. Taapsee mentioned that actors should be judged solely on their talent, not their online following. She stressed that filmmakers should prioritise personality and skill over social media metrics.

At present, Taapsee is gearing up for Anubhav Sinha’s next film. This will mark her third collaboration with the director after Mulk and Thappad. She was last seen in Dunki (2023) alongside Shah Rukh Khan.
