The 2025 Super Bowl featured a memorable commercial from Hellmann’s mayonnaise, recreating the iconic diner scene from When Harry Met Sally. The ad sees Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan returning to Katz’s Deli for sandwiches, with a twist—mayonnaise enhances Sally’s experience this time. The biggest surprise? Actress Sydney Sweeney makes a cameo, delivering the famous line, “I’ll have what she’s having,” originally spoken by director Rob Reiner’s mother in the 1989 classic. Before the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, Sweeney shared fun behind-the-scenes photos with Crystal and Ryan, enjoying a pickle and the moment.
In the commercial, titled When Sally Met Hellmann’s, as they enjoy their sandwiches, Ryan jokes, “I can’t believe they let us back in this place.” Noticing that Crystal isn’t too happy with the meal, he asks, “What, no good?” After adding some mayonnaise, her expression changes completely, as she starts moaning in delight, saying, “Oh my gosh. So good.” This time, Ryan assures, “This one’s real.” Slamming the table in satisfaction, she declares, “Now that is a sandwich.” Seeing her reaction, Sydney makes a surprise appearance and says, “I’ll have what she’s having,” just like in the original film.
Sharing the ad on Instagram, along with some fun glimpses from the set, Sydney Sweeney wrote, “I had what she had.”
Speaking about Sydney Sweeney’s involvement in the Super Bowl commercial, Meg Ryan told Good Housekeeping, “We loved meeting Sydney Sweeney. She’s a doll. And pretty brave to come into that environment. She was loose and funny — and I have to say, if I put myself in her shoes, oh my god it’d be a little intimidating walking into that set at this time. She was just fantastic. She was really impressive. Sweet and ballsy and great.”
Billy Crystal adds, “I thought it was an inspired idea. She was so respectful of Meg. She looked at her adoringly and with great respect and admiration; she was humbled by it.”
Released in 1989, When Harry Met Sally follows the story of two graduates who meet by chance and form a friendship. After parting ways, they unexpectedly cross paths again five years later, this time grappling with their evolving feelings for each other and the challenges of navigating a deeper connection.
