Gabriel Macht’s Suits LA, a spin-off, releases on February 23, six years after Suits ended in 2019.
Suits LA premieres from February 23.
After much waiting, Suits LA is finally releasing on February 23. A spin-off to the original series, it marks actor Gabriel Macht’s return as the mighty Harvey Spector. But, have you ever wondered what took the show’s makers so long to greenlight the project? Here are some possible reasons.
Suits, starring an ensemble cast, gained popularity right from the first season. However, its popular peaked when it streamed on Netflix in 2023 and beat the ratings of the OTT platform’s original series, Wednesday, by becoming the most-viewed shows of the year. It even surpassed the viewership records of Steve Carrells’ The Office, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
Suits originally ran for nine seasons – from 2011 to 2019. To put the pieces together in the 10th season would have been tricky. That’s how the idea of a spin-off in the form of Suits: LA was born. That way, the show will open door to a newer audience, and get the loyalty of its primitive fanbase.
Suits: LA will revolve around Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who is now running his own private LA firm. The show’s logline reads: “Ted’s firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.”
