Assam: Stay Away from Making Unnecessary Political Comments: CM to Ministers

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed his cabinet colleagues to do away with the practice of making unnecessary statements in public on political issues instead of making people aware of the development activities that the government has been carrying out.

In his letter to the ministers, the chief minister said, “It has been observed that on some occasions, ministers, while interacting with the media, made political statements and unnecessary comments on political issues that create avoidable controversy and divert the attention of the people away from the development activities. It is also seen that there is an attempt from some quarters of the media to provoke the ministers and insist on controversial comments to create sensation and derail the development process.”

The Chief Minister further said that the government is working vigorously with an ambitious agenda of socio-economic development. The ongoing programme of 12 days of development will further be followed by various citizen-centric interventions and initiatives. In such a backdrop, the government’s sincere efforts of good governance, it is imperative that the ministers should remain focused and avoid any destruction, he said.

The Chief Minister said, “In view of the above, all ministers are requested not to make any political comments, stay away from any political interviews, and also avoid reacting and commenting on political issues. While interacting with the media, ministers should discuss the issues related to the development issues of their departments in specific and the government in general.”

The Chief Minister appealed to the ministers that they should collectively focus on the effective implementation of government policies, projects, and programmes to change the socio-economic landscape of Assam for the larger interests of the people of the state.
