Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday criticised the Union government over reports that the Railways has reduced the number of unreserved coaches in a few trains. It was a matter of “pity” that the government has reduced unreserved coaches that were used by the poor and the downtrodden.

Referring to posts on social media over various recent incidents involving trains in various parts of the country, Mr. Stalin contended that while more unreserved coaches were expected to benefit the downtrodden, a “sadist government” had added to their burden.

According to a media report, the Railway has reduced the number of general class coaches available for unreserved travel in 13 pairs of trains. They were to be replaced with air-conditioned three-tier coaches, the report said.
