Netflix has officially set June 27 as the release date for the third and final season of its global sensation Squid Game. The announcement comes alongside a gripping first-look teaser, promising a dramatic conclusion to the South Korean survival thriller series.

Following the nail-biting cliffhanger at the end of Season 2, fans will finally discover how Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, resolves his mission to dismantle the deadly competition and save the players. Lee is joined by returning cast members Wi Ha-jun as Jun-ho and Lee Byung-hun as the enigmatic Front Man, alongside several new stars.

Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk continues as director and executive producer, with Kim Ji-yeon also serving as an EP.

Season 2, released on December 26, 2024, featured seven intense episodes and was filmed back-to-back with Season 3 to ensure a shorter wait between installments. This approach contrasts sharply with the gap between Seasons 1 and 2, which took nearly three years following the show’s unexpected breakout success in 2021.

The second season delves into Gi-hun’s return to the sadistic games three years after winning 45.6 billion South Korean won as the sole survivor. Now determined to dismantle the sinister organization behind the games, he confronts life-threatening challenges in a bid to protect new participants.

The season finale left viewers on edge with a massive cliffhanger and a tantalising mid-credits scene teasing Season 3’s trajectory.

Since its December release, Squid Game Season 2 has amassed over 173 million views and more than 1.2 billion hours of watch time, making it the second-most-watched non-English series on Netflix.

The show’s legacy began with its first season, which became the most-watched series in Netflix history and garnered 17 Emmy nominations. Lee Jung-jae made history by winning Best Actor in a Drama, while Lee You-mi secured an award for Best Guest Actress in a Drama.

With expectations sky-high, Squid Game’s upcoming final chapter promises an explosive conclusion that fans won’t want to miss.
