
Senior officials from the Chennai Division of Southern Railway handed over an ex gratia compensation of ₹50,000 to an injured woman passenger, who was pushed off a moving train by a man in an attempt to sexually assault her. The officials met the survivor, who is four months pregnant, at a government hospital in Vellore on Saturday (February 8, 2025).
According to a press release, Tej Partap Singh, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, handed over the compensation to the survivor in the presence of M. Bharat Kumar, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, and S.V.O. Chandrakumar, Chief Medical Superintendent of Chennai Division, Southern Railway. The team also assured all possible assistance to the woman and her family, the release said.
The 36-year-old pregnant woman was pushed out of a moving train near Katpadi in Vellore district on Thursday when she resisted another passenger’s attempt to sexually assault her. A 31-year-old history-sheeter was arrested on Friday (February 7, 2025) by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Jolarpet, in connection with the incident.
