Sonu Nigam has expressed his frustration over a fake X account created in his name.

Singer Sonu Nigam has shared a post on Instagram, expressing his frustration over a fake X (formerly Twitter) account created in his name. This isn’t the first time the singer has called out this impersonator, who has a verified account in the name of Sonu Nigam Singh on X. As the impersonator made political comments from the fake account last year, Sonu Nigam called the incident alarming, and expressed concern for his family’s safety. Now, once again, the singer has vented his frustration, saying that a single controversial post can potentially put his and his family’s life at risk. He also criticized the authorities, and law enforcement for their silence and inaction on the matter.

Sharing a screenshot of the fake account on X, Sonu Nigam wrote, “I am not on Twitter or X. Can you imagine a single controversial Post from this Sonu Nigam Singh, can put me or my family’s life in danger? Can you imagine to what extent this man has been playing with my name and credibility? For no fault of ours. And the press, administration, government, law, who know about this, are all Quiet. Waiting for some thing to happen and then convey condolences. Thank you.”

Sonu Nigam’s fans came out in his support. While one fan wrote, “This needs to be dealt with legally, specially considering the fact that he has been warned many times. You should file a formal complaint and see to it that he’s penalised,” another one commented, “He has been using your name since lockdown after multiple reports he changed his username and added Singh but continues to put controversial content & people think it’s you.” The singer quit X in 2017, citing lack of respect for freedom of speech.

Last year, Sonu Nigam addressed this issue in an interview with Hindustan Times. He said, “I wonder how people, including the news channels that mistook him for me, didn’t do their basic sanity check by reading the description of the account. His handle says Sonu Nigam Singh and the description says that he’s a criminal lawyer from Bihar.” He said that this is exactly why he had quit Twitter years ago. He said that he doesn’t believe in making any sensational political remarks, and only wants to focus on his work.
