
Kerala State Disaster Management Authority revises parameters for award of compensation to victims of human-animal conflicts
The executive committee of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) on Monday finalised a new set of parameters for award of compensation to victims of human-animal conflicts.
According to the new guidelines, kin of those killed in snakebites will get a compensation of ₹4 lakh from the State Disaster Response Fund. Those sustaining loss of property such as wells, fences, compound walls, dryers and MSME units will be eligible for a compensation of up to ₹1 lakh from the SDRF.
The State Forest department will establish control rooms at the division level as part of the efforts to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts and a one-time grant of ₹3.72 crore has been allocated for this. The State Forest department will meet the annual expenses and day-to-day running costs of the State Forest Emergency Operation Centre and Divisional Forest Operation Centres.
Chief secretary Sarada Muraleedharan chaired the meeting.
