Selena Gomez surprised fans by announcing her return to music despite previously stating she would focus solely on acting after Emilia Perez. She announced a new album, I Said I Love You First, a collaboration with her fiance, Benny Blanco, set for release on March 21. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the couple also dropped the album’s first single, Scared of Loving You, along with a heartfelt music video capturing their intimate moments. The album is deeply personal, tracing their journey—from “before they met to falling in love and looking to what the future holds.”

Taking to Instagram, the singer wrote, “I always trick you guys, my NEW album, I Said I Love You First, with my best friend Benny Blanco, is out on 3/21. Our first song, Scared of Loving You is out now on all streaming platforms. Merchandise and signed products for the album are available for pre-order now. We can’t wait to share this special project with you soon.”

As per the press release, “The album celebrates the pair’s love story, giving fans a unique window into their relationship. This album came together organically as a direct result of the comfort that they both felt when working together creatively, allowing them to produce art that authentically reflects their experiences. It chronicles their entire story – before they met, falling in love, and looking to what the future holds.”

According to People, Selena Gomez had earlier disappointed many at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in California by revealing her plans to “just focus” on acting after starring in Jacques Audiard’s musical, Emilia Perez.

She said, “I think film and art-making and being around such incredible, talented people that have done nothing but uplift me along the way. It’s going to be very hard for me to ever go back to music after this. The director just really trusted me and I was so grateful because I’ve gotten to show people that I am capable of doing more. I hope that this is just the beginning for me.”

In December 2024, Selena Gomez announced her engagement with Benny Blanco on Instagram with the caption, “Forever begins now.” In response, Benny sweetly replied, “Hey wait, that’s my wife.”

Soon, many celebrities, such as Taylor Swift, Gordon Ramsay, Cardi B, Cara Delevingne, Gwyneth Paltrow, Suki Waterhouse, Lori Greiner, Olivia Wilde, Padma Lakshmi, Jennifer Aniston and Lily Collins, congratulated the newly engaged couple, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco.
