A security guard working at Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman’s house in Neelangarai has been arrested after he allegedly stopped police officials who went there to investigate an incident of tearing of a summons, which directed Mr. Seeman to appear before the Valasaravakkam police in connection with a complaint lodged by a female actor.
On February 17, 2025, the Madras High Court dismissed a petition filed by the NTK chief coordinator in 2023 to quash the FIR in a rape case registered against him by the Valasaravakkam police in Chennai years ago, based on a complaint lodged by the actor who had acted in one of his films when he was a director in the Tamil film industry. The High Court had directed the presence of the petitioner in the court at the next hearing in March, 2025.
The FIR was originally registered on the basis of a 2011 complaint lodged by the Bengaluru-based actor, and the court had directed the police to complete the investigation within 12 weeks. A judicial magistrate had already recorded the statement of the complainant under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Following the High Court’s order, the Valasaravakkam police revived its investigation and issued a summons seeking Mr. Seeman’s appearance for an inquiry. Sources in the police said as he failed to appear before the police on Thursday (February 27, 2025), personnel from Valasaravakkam pasted the summons on the wall of his house, directing him to show up for inquiry as per the provisions of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
A few minutes later, the document was torn allegedly by one of his aides who was at Mr. Seeman’s house. On receiving information about the incident, Neelangarai Inspector Praveen Rajesh and personnel in plainclothes arrived at the house to question the aide.
The security guard, identified as Amal Raj, however, resisted their entry. The police personnel overpowered him. He refused to get into the police jeep when they tried to take him into custody, and was forcibly pushed into the vehicle before being taken to the Neelangarai police station. A pistol was seized from him.
He was later taken to a government hospital after he complained of an injury.
Won’t appear before police: Seeman
Mr. Seeman, meanwhile, said he would not appear before the Valsaravakkam police in connection with the rape case.
Asking why there was a hurry to appear, he said: “Tomorrow, I am here in Dharmapuri for party consultations. The summons is in Valsaravakkam police station. I will not go. They can do what they can,” he said.
He further said: “The DMK is hiding behind the woman (complainant). They are unable to handle me, and an election is around the corner. Strangely, the complainant, who did not surface during Jayalalithaa’s or Edappadi Palaniswami’s tenure, has surfaced now.”
