Researchers at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kochi, claimed to have decoded the gene expression pattern of Indian squid (Uroteuthis duvaucelii).
The research programme was conducted by a team led by Sandhya Sukumaran, principal scientist at the Marine Biotechnology, Fish Nutrition and Health Division of the institute, according to a communication.
The study on the gene expression profiles of the species revealed its genetic similarities with higher vertebrates such as fish and humans suggesting evolutionary connections, the communication said.
