Kanwaljit Singh is winning hearts with his performance in Arati Kadav’s Mrs., but it’s his emotional recollection of Amitabh Bachchan’s kind gesture that has caught attention. In an interview with Hindi Rush, the veteran actor got teary-eyed as he spoke about his bond with the Bollywood megastar.
Kanwaljit, who worked with Amitabh Bachchan in Satte Pe Satta, shared how he was initially intimidated by the superstar. “I used to be very scared of him during the Satte Pe Satta shoot. After filming, Amitabh ji used to come to our hotel, and we would play snooker. I was so scared of him that whenever I hit a good shot, I would look at him and say, ‘I am sorry.’ And he would reply, ‘Why are you sorry? That was a good shot.’”
The actor then became emotional while recalling a personal moment with Amitabh Bachchan. “My son, who was a painter, I went to him. Amitabh ji specifically told his secretary, ‘Arrange dates for Kuku, I’ll go to him.’ Then he came for the opening. That was very sweet of him.”
Kanwaljit Singh has had an illustrious career in Bollywood and television. He made his debut in 1977 with Shankar Hussain and later starred in Satte Pe Satta, marking his second Bollywood film. Over the years, he has been part of several successful films, including Bang Bang!, Rustom, Raazi, and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. He has also made a mark on television with shows like Buniyaad, Param Vir Chakra, and Aahat.
His latest role as Sanya Malhotra’s father-in-law in Mrs. has been widely appreciated. The film, which tackles regressive patriarchal traditions through the lens of a newlywed woman’s journey, has sparked conversations since its release on ZEE5. Produced by Harman Baweja, Pammi Baweja, Smitha Baliga, Abdul Aziz Makani, and Jyoti Deshpande, Mrs. also stars Nishant Dahiya, Varun Badola, and Aparna Ghoshal.
Kanwaljit is also seen in Sooraj Barjatya’s OTT debut, Bada Naam Karenge. The Rajshri Productions series, directed by Palash Vaswani, features Ritik Ghanshani, Ayesha Kaduskar, Alka Amin, Jameel Khan, Deepika Amin, and Anjana Sukhani in key roles. The show is currently streaming on SonyLIV.
