Samay Raina became a household name after India’s Got Latent show.

Stand-up comedian Samay Raina appears unfazed by the recent controversy surrounding his YouTube reality show India’s Got Latent. A fresh photo shows Raina engrossed in a game of chess amid ongoing backlash over an FIR filed against him and other panelists for promoting obscenity during the show.

Currently on his Unfiltered: North America Tour 2025, Samay Raina performed at Seattle’s Moore Theatre over the weekend. The historic venue, which gained fame through Jo Koy’s 2017 Golden Globes-hosted comedy special Live from Seattle, hosted Raina’s latest act on Sunday.

The viral image, shared by Raina’s close friend and India’s Got Latent judge Balraj Singh Ghai on Instagram, shows the comedian standing in deep focus over a chessboard set up atop a backstage equipment case. Balraj, who is travelling with Samay for the U.S. tour, is the owner of Ghai Hotels and Investment company.

This follows a police complaint filed against Raina and several co-judges, including Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, and influencer Ranveer Allahbadia. The FIR accuses them of promoting obscene and sexually explicit content on the show, invoking multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The controversy stems from remarks made by Allahbadia, better known as BeerBiceps, during a recent episode of India’s Got Latent. He allegedly asked a contestant an inappropriate question involving body parts and proposed an indecent act in exchange for Rs 2 crore. The outrage peaked when he posed a controversial question: “Would you watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join once to stop it forever?”

High Court advocate Satyam Surana lodged a formal complaint with Mumbai Police against the panel. In a statement to ANI, Surana condemned the incident: “The video that went viral shows Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, and others making explicit comments. This content disturbs Indian sensibilities. Legal action is necessary to address such behaviour.”
