Comedian Samay Raina is facing heat for YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s “sex with parents” remark on his show, India’s Got Latent. Raina, who is currently touring in Canada as a part of his Samay Raina Unfiltered tour, indirectly addressed the aftermaths of the incident. He gave the audience a sneak peek of his conversation with comedian Tanmay Bhat after the “kaand” (scandal).
Samay Raina performed in front of a live audience at Massey Theatre in Vancouver. Film journalist Faridoon Shahryar, who attended the show, narrated excerpts from the night. He said that Raina was welcomed with a standing ovation on the stage. Later, he revealed his conversation with Bhat.
“Maine @tanmaybhat bhai se baat kiya, maine kaha tanmay bhai jab aisa kuch hota hai kaand toh aisa hota hai ki bhook nahi lagti? Toh unhone kaha haan bhook nahi lagti aise mein. Maine kaha aap kaise mote ho gaye the Phir? (I talked to Tanmay Bhat, I said, ‘Tanmay bhai, when something like this happens, a scandal, doesn’t it make you lose your appetite?’ He replied, ‘Yes, you don’t feel hungry in such situations.’ I then asked, ‘So how did you become so fat then?’,” said Samay, as the crowd erupted in laughter.
It all started when, Ranveer Allahbadia, who runs the popular YouTube channel BeerBiceps, appeared on India’s Got Latent show earlier this month. He asked a young contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” The question sparked outrage, with many rebuking him for the alleged vulgarity. The video was then removed from YouTube after the intervention of the I&B Ministry and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). As the controversy snowballed, Samay Raina deleted all the episodes of India’s Got Latent from YouTube.
