In a big development in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, the 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, who was arrested earlier this month, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody. On Wednesday, a Mumbai court ruled that there was no fresh ground for extending the accused’s police custody.
As reported by PTI, the accused named Mohammad Shariful Islam was produced before the Bandra magistrate court at the end of his police custody. While police officials sought an extension of his custody for two days for further investigation, the court noted that the accused was in police custody for more than ten days.
“The record reflected that the investigation was over, no fresh ground for custody was noticed, and the police can seek his fresh custody within the permissible period if anything new came to light,” the magistrate said.
Previously, police officials claimed that the accused, arrested from adjoining Thane, is a Bangladeshi who changed his name Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad to `Bijoy Das’ after entering India illegally.
Saif was stabbed by an intruder at his Mumbai residence in the wee hours of January 16. It was reported that at around 2 AM, the actor heard noises when one of his female employees was attacked in Jeh’s room. This prompted Saif to intervene, which led to an altercation between the two and the attacker injured both Saif and the female employee. The Bollywood star was stabbed six times by the robber following which he was rushed to the hospital.
Saif Ali Khan had three injuries, two on the hand and one on the right side of the neck, and the major part was at the back, which was in the spine. Doctors removed the sharp object that was lodged in the spine and repaired the injury. Khan recovered well and was shifted from the intensive care unit (ICU) on January 17 to a special room. He was then discharged.
