Saba Azad, currently starring in Crime Beat, opens up about her “love-hate relationship” with social media.

Saba Azad reveals how social media followers now play a crucial role in landing acting roles, even for those without prior experience.

Saba Azad is currently basking in the excitement surrounding her latest crime thriller, Crime Beat, where she stars alongside Saqib Saleem. Known for her discerning approach to projects, the actress recently shed light on her complicated relationship with social media and how it now plays a surprising role in shaping careers in the entertainment industry.

In a candid conversation with Money Control, Saba admitted, “I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with social media.” She confessed that while she occasionally engages actively, posting for three consecutive days, she often goes completely silent for months.

Despite her inconsistent presence, Saba acknowledged social media’s undeniable influence. She praised its ability to deliver authentic news and shrink the world, offering users a window into global events at their fingertips—something unimaginable not too long ago.

However, the Crime Beat star was quick to highlight the platform’s duality. “Life does not exist on social media,” she emphasized, noting both its advantages and pitfalls. One striking observation she shared was how follower counts now influence casting decisions.

“People are being cast based on their social media following, even if they have no prior interest or experience in acting. It’s become common for brands and filmmakers to think, ‘This person has a huge following—let’s cast them.’ Even I get brand work through social media,” she revealed, underscoring the platform’s evolving power.

Yet, Saba offered a word of caution. While social media can open doors, it’s essential not to lose sight of reality. “As long as you remember that social media is not real life but reel life, and stay grounded in the real world, you’ll be alright,” she concluded thoughtfully.

Directed by Sudhir Mishra and Sanjeev Kaul, Crime Beat features an ensemble cast, including Ranvir Shorey, Sai Tamhankar, Danish Hussain, Rahul Bhat, Rajesh Tailang, Addinath Kothare, and Saba Azad. The gripping crime thriller premiered on February 21, 2025, and is now streaming on Zee5.
