The Ashok Nagar police have arrested a gang of seven for killing their rival rowdy sheeter Hyder Ali to death near a football stadium in the wee hours of Sunday.
The prime accused Nayaz Pasha is also a rowdy sheeter at the Ashok Nagar police station and was the arch rival of Hyder Ali, the police said. The accused Nayaz had an old rivalry with the deceased and plotted the murder a few days ago and set out his associates to stalk him, the police said.
“Special teams were formed under the Ashoka Nagar police inspector and after analysing CCTV feed and using local intelligence, the accused were apprehended. They were taken into custody for further investigations to ascertain the role of others in the murder, a police officer said.
Police records show that a history sheet was opened against Hyder Ali at the Ashok Nagar police station in 2014. He faced 11 cases, including attempted murder, assault, and drug-related offences.
At around 1.15 a.m. on February 23, Hyder Ali, 38, was returning home in Anepalya on his friend’s motorcycle after attending a party at a bar on Residency Road. As their motorcycle reached the football stadium, the assailants stormed out of a waiting car, even as others followed him from the bar. The assailants confronted Ali, while his friend, owner of a gym in J.P. Nagar, who rode the motorcycle, was assaulted. He sustained minor injuries and was forced to step away only to watch the attack. Ali was then attacked with machetes and sharp weapons both in the front and the back and left to bleed on the road, sustained over 56 stab injuries all over his body. He was declared dead at Bowring Hospital.
