Robert Pattinson, now known for playing the role of Batman, became a household name after his stint as Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga. He played the gloomy vampire, the character in the book by Stephanie Meyer. The film turned out to be a box office hit but received mixed reactions from critics. Well now, the actor opened up about the resurgence of the book-turned-movies and surprising reactions of people who are still hating the Twilight Saga.

In an interview with GQ Spain, Robert Pattinson shared his thoughts about the newfound appreciation for films. He said, “I find it a fascinating phenomenon. I mean, I can’t believe it. I think this renaissance has emerged in Korea and it’s happened a bit like with K-pop, which took off in Korea but then seduced a young Western population. I find it hard to believe the cultural relevance that these films maintain because they are so old.”

Expressing his astonishment regarding those who still hate Twilight, Pattinson exclaims, “The first one was released in 2008, f**k! I love that people keep telling me, ‘Man, Twilight ruined the vampire genre.’ Are you still stuck on that s**t? How can you be sad about something that happened almost 20 years ago? It’s crazy.”

Based on the popular novel series by Stephenie Meyer, the Twilight Saga movies follow a high school student, Bella Swan, who moves to Forks, Washington, to live with her dad. She eventually meets and falls in love with Edward Cullen (played by Robert Pattinson), who happens to be a vampire.

The film first premiered in theatres in 2008, earning $407 million at the global box office. Following its success, the rest of Meyer’s books were turned into movies. Starting with New Moon in 2009 and Eclipse in 2010 to Breaking Dawn—Part 1 in 2011 and Breaking Dawn—Part 2 in 2012, the franchises achieved varying levels of success.

Speaking about Robert Pattinson’s work front, the actor is gearing up for the release of his upcoming sci-fi thriller Mickey 17. Based on Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey 7, the film stars Pattinson as Mickey Barnes, a character who embarks on perilous missions deemed too dangerous for ordinary humans. In the film, Mickey dies multiple times while striving to control a new world. Directed by Bong Joon-ho, the film features an impressive cast including Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Steven Yeun and Mark Ruffalo.

Other than this, he will reprise his role in The Batman Part II. The film is scheduled to begin shooting this year and be released in cinemas by October 2027. Next up, he will share screen space with Jennifer Lawrence in Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love. He also has A24’s The Drama, with Zendaya lined up on his plate.
