Kerala Students Union (KSU) activists intended to cause grievous injuries to Students Federation of India (SFI) activists at the D-Zone cultural festival of Calicut University during a clash that erupted between the two groups, according to the remand report.
It was highlighted in the remand report that questions raised about the conduct of the festival led to the clash. The attackers used iron pipes and other objects like bamboo sticks to carry out the assault, it added. The three KSU leaders arrested from Aluva in connection with the clash are facing charges of attempted murder. The cases were registered based on complaints filed by SFI activists, who alleged that the KSU workers intended to kill them, used obscene language, and even threatened them with dire consequences.
The report further noted that multiple cases are pending against the arrested individuals at various police stations. The accused were presented at the Chalakkudy court and remanded to the Thrissur district jail.
Youth Congress Protest at DIG Office
In protest against the lack of action against SFI workers involved in the festival clash, Youth Congress workers staged a sit-in at the DIG office.
They accused the CPI(M) of protecting criminals, claiming that the police were shielding those responsible for the violence.
