Recognition for young talents at Cusat

Young talents at the School of Engineering at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) have made a mark at an all-India engineering design competition.

The 52-member ‘Yeti Racing’ team has won the overall title in the combustion category of the Formula Bharat 2025 competition in which students from colleges and universities across the country, compete with a life-size formula-style vehicle in areas of engineering design, overall cost, marketability and dynamic performance. The series replicates the global student Formula series hosted in around 11 countries per year. This year’s event was held at the Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore, from January 22 to 27.

“In the combustion category, the teams design, build, and race formula-style race cars powered by internal combustion engines. Besides winning the overall title in the category, our team had won the first position in the endurance race, efficiency, and overall dynamics sections,” said Abhijith Mohan of the ‘Yeti Racing’ team.

“We had won the ninth position all-India-wise in the national-level student formula competition organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers India in October 2024,” he said. The faculty members who supported the winning team included Dr Biju. N, Dr Gireesh Kumaran Thampi, and Priyadarshi Dutt.

The Formula Bharat competition aims at encouraging students to gain hands-on practical experience while applying engineering theories studied in the classroom. They are required to build a new vehicle from scratch year-after-year and seek sponsorship and donations by their own means to fund the project.
