Netflix’s critically acclaimed short film Anuja, directed by Adam J. Graves, has secured a prestigious nomination for Best Live Action Short at the 97th Academy Awards. This nomination marks a significant milestone for director Adam J. Graves and producer Suchitra Mattai, both earning their first Oscar nods.
With Netflix backing the project, the film benefits from the involvement of influential industry figures, including producers Guneet Monga Kapoor, Mindy Kaling, Krushan Naik, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who serves as an Executive Producer alongside Anita Bhatia. The project also features Co-Executive Producers Archana Jain, Susan MacLaury, and Albie Hecht.
Anuja brings to life a compelling narrative rooted in the experiences of street and working children, with lead actress Sajda Pathan—who has lived through similar challenges—delivering a heartwarming and authentic performance. The film was made in collaboration with Mira Nair’s Salaam Baalak Trust, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to empowering underprivileged children.
