Parineeti Chopra admits that she faced many failures because she didn’t know ‘how to play the game.’
Parineeti Chopra, who made her Bollywood debut with the 2011 film ‘Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl’ has come a long way in her career. While she had her fair share of ups and downs, she garnered immense praise for her roles in Ishaqzaade, Hasee Toh Phasee, Amar Singh Chamkila, among other films. In a recent interview, the actress said that the new generation of actors are way more prepared than she was when she had forayed into Bollywood. She said that the newcomers know the importance of networking. Parineeti also admitted that she faced several failures and setbacks because she didn’t know how to play the game.
While speaking with Mashable Middle East, Parineeti Chopra said that she doesn’t feel she is the ‘cliched candidate’ to be in Bollywood. “I don’t think like an actor 24X7, I don’t know the people, I don’t know how films get cast. I don’t know all of these. This whole game, I think I am learning now. I didn’t know it at that time,” she said. Parineeti further added that at the time, she just knew she had to come on set and act. She didn’t think of releases, and wasn’t even aware of promotions. In contrast to herself, she said that the newcomers are way more prepared, and know exactly who to call, who to message, and how to position themselves at the right parties.
“I see newcomers today are way more prepped. They know on another level kisko kab phone karna hai, kisko message karna hai, kiski party mein dikhna hai, kisse dosti karni hai. Maine to abhi tak wo nahi kiya. (They know on another level who to call, who to message, whose party to attend, and with whom to be friends. I haven’t done all of that). And that’s why I had maybe I have had many failures also because of that because I didn’t know how to play the game. But I was the most pure, well-intentioned person who just came for acting. And I just acted and kept moving on,” said Parineeti.
She further said that she shot both films- Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl and Ishaqzaade- back to back, and had no idea which one would release first. She said that when she finished Ishaqzaade, people told her that it will be her first leading role. “I was like ‘oh yeah, there’s no other girl in the film.’ My mind never used to work like that. And when it happened and suddenly there were awards. In fact, Ishaqzaade ke liye National Award bhi ho gaya. For me it was as big or not as anything else. I didn’t take anything seriously at that time. I just kept going on and on,” she said.
Parineeti Chopra was last seen in Imtiaz Ali’s film Amar Singh Chamkila, alongside Diljit Dosanjh.
