Black Sabbath fans were excited about the band’s reunion for their farewell Back to the Beginning concert in June, featuring Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. However, Ozzy recently shared some disappointing news and revealed he wouldn’t be performing all the songs at the event, which is set to take place in their hometown, Birmingham. The legendary singer explained that he would only perform ‘little bits and pieces’, and shared that he would appear on stage ‘where he feels comfortable’. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and undergoing multiple surgeries in recent years, Ozzy’s health is the main reason for this limited involvement.
While speaking on his Ozzy Speaks programme on SiriusXM, the musician said, “I’m not planning on doing a set with Black Sabbath but I am doing little bits and pieces with them. I am doing what I can, where I feel comfortable. I am trying to get back on my feet. When you get up in the morning, you just jump out of bed. I have to balance myself, but I’m not dead. I’m still actively doing things.”
During the previous health update, Ozzy Osbourne explained, “You know what, I go on about the way I can’t walk and I can’t do this, but you know what I was thinking over the holidays? For all of my complaining, I’m still alive. I may be moaning about how I can’t walk as well but as I look down the road, there’s people that didn’t do half as much as me and they didn’t make it.”
The Back to the Beginning concert will bring Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward together for the first time in 20 years. Besides Black Sabbath, the event will also feature performances from legendary bands like Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Alice In Chains, Lamb Of God, Anthrax and Mastodon.
On the other hand, a special supergroup of well-known musicians, including Billy Corgan, David Draiman, Duff McKagan and Slash from Guns ‘n Roses, Frank Bello, Fred Durst, Jake E Lee, Jonathan Davis, KK Downing, Lzzy Hale, Mike Bordin, Rudy Sarzo, Sammy Hagar, Scott Ian, Sleep Token ii, Papa V Perpetua, Tom Morello, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Zakk Wylde, are also set to delight fans on July 5.
