Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president K. Sudhakaran has reiterated his willingness to relinquish his post, saying that the position is not a personal adornment.
“The All India Congress Committee [AICC] can appoint anyone as KPCC president. I have no desire for the post,” he said in Kannur on Tuesday.
Mr. Sudhakaran added that he had no intention of contesting Assembly election unless instructed by the party.
On speculations over leadership changes, he clarified that there was no need to replace the KPCC president and the Opposition leader simultaneously.
On the functioning of Congress general secretary Deepa Das Munshi, Mr. Sudhakaran said she was meeting leaders individually not because there was no unity among them, but because she trusted them.
“Deepa Das Munshi disagrees with leaders sitting together for discussions,” he noted, adding that her proactive approach was respected within the party.
On reports of the police seeking to record the KPCC chief’s statement in connection with the death of Wayanad District Congress Committee (DCC) treasurer N.M. Vijayan, Mr. Sudhakaran said he had not received any notice. He also promised full cooperation with the investigation.
He alleged political motives behind attempts to link him to the case, noting that any lapse in the matter would be addressed on the basis of the KPPC commission report.
