A 19-year-old BSc student was suspected to have drowned when he tried to save his friend from drowning in the Panchamukhi in Bannerghatta on Saturday.
While the Fire and Emergency Services personnel recovered the body of one student, identified as Deepak, they were yet to trace the body of Yogeshwaran, and the operation was called off owing to bad light.
The victims were students of St. Francis de Sales College in Hebbagodi and had gone to the Champakadhama temple along with three other friends. The duo ventured into water and did not know how to swim, said the police.
Noticing that Yogeshwaran was drowning and shouting for help, Deepak jumped into the water. The others rushed to get help, but by the time the help came there were no signs of the duo.
The Bannerghatta police and the Fire and Emergency Servies team managed to recover Deepak’s body after three hours of operation. The operation will be resumed on Sunday to track down Yogeshwaran, the police said.
