New details have emerged about Liam Payne’s troubled relationship with his ex-fiancée Maya Henry, shedding light on the personal struggles and emotional turmoil he allegedly caused. Four months after his death, the former One Direction member is the subject of a bombshell Rolling Stone cover story, which reveals shocking claims about his behaviour during his on-and-off romance with Henry between 2018 and 2022.
According to sources, Payne privately “struggled with his sexuality” during his relationship with the 25-year-old writer. One insider claims that Payne sexted other men while dating Henry, a fact she discovered after he allegedly “accidentally broadcast” his messages to their TV.
In another distressing claim, it was alleged that Payne forced Henry to have an abortion in 2020. A source told Rolling Stone that Payne gave Henry an ultimatum: get the abortion or raise the child alone while he would disavow both of them. This was reportedly a shock to Henry, as Payne had previously expressed his desire to start a family with her.
The couple’s relationship had its share of ups and downs, with Henry reportedly agreeing to terminate the pregnancy. She alluded to this painful chapter in her May 2024 novel, Looking Forward, which she admitted was inspired by her romance with Payne. While she did not provide further details on the timing of the abortion, she discussed the emotional and physical complications she faced afterward.
In a disturbing turn, the report also alleges that Payne physically harmed Henry, including pushing her down a flight of stairs and chasing her with an ax. In a statement, Henry expressed that while she deeply loved Payne, his addiction and hurtful actions left scars that were difficult to comprehend. She acknowledged that she ignored red flags and found herself in unsafe situations.
Two years after they broke up, Henry sent Payne a cease-and-desist letter, accusing him of sending unsolicited and disturbing content to her and her family. At the time, Payne was in a new relationship with influencer Kate Cassidy, whom he was with in Argentina just days before his tragic death.
Payne’s death, which occurred after he fell from a third-floor balcony in his hotel, remains under investigation. Five individuals have been charged in connection to the incident, as reported by court documents obtained in December 2024.
