In the events preluding Republic Day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh awarded the ‘Raksha Mantri Padak’, the highest honour to be bestowed on NCC cadets every year, to Under Officer V.P. Theja, during the investiture ceremony held at the Republic Day Camp in New Delhi recently.
Ms. Theja, daughter of V.P. Baby and Smitha, is a third year student of B.A. Mass Communication and Journalism at NMSM College, Kalpetta, a unit of 5 Kerala Bn NCC, Wayanad, under the aegis of NCC Group HQ, Kohzikode, under NCC Directorate (Kerala & Lakshadweep), a press release said on Tuesday.
The recognition is for her commitment to selfless service, devotion to duty, leadership, and extreme compassion during the Wayanad landslides last year. Being deployed for aid to civil authority under 5 Kerala Bn NCC during the disaster, she worked tirelessly along with her team to coordinate distribution of relief material and provide assistance to the displaced and injured, under challenging conditions.
Ms. Theja said it was possible to make a difference during extremely adverse situations during relief operations, only due to team work and contribution of all members of the team. She dedicated the achievement to her team.
