Massive Drug Bust: Meth Tablets Worth ₹88 Crore Seized, Four Arrested In Imphal And Guwahati

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, security agencies seized methamphetamine tablets worth ₹88 crore and arrested four members of an international drug cartel in Imphal and Guwahati, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Sunday.

Amit Shah praised the operation as a testament to the government’s bottom-to-top and top-to-bottom approach in tackling drug networks. “No mercy for drug cartels. Accelerating the Modi government’s march towards a drug-free Bharat, a massive consignment of methamphetamine tablets has been seized, and four cartel members arrested,” he posted on X.

According to a government statement, officials from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Imphal intercepted a truck near Lilong on March 13, recovering 102.39 kg of methamphetamine tablets concealed in the vehicle’s toolbox. Two suspects were arrested on the spot, while a third receiver was later apprehended.

In a simultaneous operation, NCB officers from the Guwahati Zone intercepted an SUV near the Assam-Mizoram border at Silchar and recovered 7.48 kg of methamphetamine hidden inside the spare tire. The occupant of the vehicle was arrested.

The drugs were reportedly sourced from Moreh, Manipur, and were suspected to be destined for Karimganj, Assam. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify other individuals involved in the cartel.
