SOUTH SALMARA: Police in Assam’s South Salmara-Mankachar district, along with the support of Kalapani Police Station, recovered a significant quantity of explosives from Barbilla’s Amtenga region. The operation was led by Additional Superintendent of Police Pratap Das following a tip-off alerting authorities to suspicious activities in the area.
The raid led to the seizure of 760 explosive sticks, 400 CDET ALFA detonators, and other related materials. The explosives, packed in 38 polythene bags, each containing 20 sticks, were found together with five bundles of detonators, 55 bundles of blue explosive wires, and many other electric wires in different colors.
In addition, six packets of white cement along with scissors and cutters and other tools used in the manufacture of explosives were found.
Police have arrested 40-year-old Ijazul Miah, who hails from Amtenga village under Barbilla, for allegedly collecting the explosives from one individual named Sangma for Rs. 70,000. The police are interrogating him at Kalapani Police Station and are further investigating to identify sources and motives behind the explosives.
This seizure raised questions regarding the illegal supply of explosives in the region. The police are working hard to trace additional suspects that are involved in the operation. The case is quite serious, and further inquiry is done to discover the full extent of the illicit trade.
