Mahasivaratri Brahmotsavams at Srisailam temple began on Wednesday (February 19). The temple management has made elaborate arrangements for the 11-day festivities, and the first day attracted a good number of devotees.
On Day One, temple Executive Officer M. Srinivasa Rao, other officials, priests and Vedic pundits performed the Yagasala pravesam ritual, followed by Siva Sankalpam, Punyahavachanam, Chandeeswara Puja, Kankana Puja, Kanakanadarana and other rituals. In the evening, Dwajarohana was held as a mark of inviting all the gods to witness the Brahmotsavams.
On the other hand, the offering of Jyotirmudi (similar to the irumudi of Ayyappa deeksha devotees) marking the relinquishment of Siva Deeksha began in the morning. The offering of Jyotirmudi would be held till March 5, and those who have taken the ‘mandala’ deeksha (40 days deeksha) on January 19 and those who took Ardha mandala deeskha on February 8 can relinquish their deeksha during this period.
Meanwhile, Nandyal in-charge Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patel visited Srisailam and inspected the queue lines, laddu counters, bathing ghats and all other important places in the temple town, and monitored the security arrangements made for the 11-day festivities.
Mr. Vikrant Patel instructed the police officials to ensure that the visiting devotees are not put to any inconvenience.
